I'm not sure it is. The only reason people find this page is by searching somewhere like Google so only those who've come across them will run that search. This appears to be about the only place on the internet that discusses white egg yolks specifically. When you put it in context, I'd say it's still a very small number of people in the grand scheme of things.

Every one appears to believe its rare, well judging by the amount of people who have found one. It must be getting a regular thing now.

I cracked open 2 eggs today and one was white. I'm in the Uk. I ate it and so far, so good. It smelt normal and scrambled fine, just not as appealing! I have a photo but not sure how to submit it!

I have free ranging chickens, nice rich orange yolks. Soft boiled some eggs yesterday. One was huge. Turned out to be a double yolker. When I broke it open, one yolk was orange, and the other was a white ball. I didn't eat it- it looked tough, and was definitely unappetizing. I live in Rhode Island. Seems like a good majority of the people posting here have gotten their eggs from a small flock, vs a large commercial operation. The only exception was Eggland's Best. I wonder if the commercial producers screen the eggs somehow,
or else fortify the hens' diets so it doesn't happen.

So, this is all very interesting, I came on here because I've also come across white yolks but in quite a different context. Here's my story.

My wife got two chickens for her birthday from my mother and one of them lays white yolk eggs.
We got them when they were very young and the first few eggs were fine. We then went away for a few months, so we moved them to my sisters house as she has lots of chickens. My sister told me "Sakura" (the white yolk layer) was very much at the bottom of the pecking order amongst her chickens. Anyway we now have them back and so far all Sakura's egg's have had white yolks.
It would seem a bit odd if it's down to her diet because we feed her egg laying pellets which are specifically to give the chickens everything they need to produce healthy eggs. And, our other chicken "Momo" lays perfectly normal, and if anything, really rich coloured eggs. They are both free ranged and they are both on the same diet yet Sakura's are still white... :-S
I guess I'm in a perfect situation to do some dietary tests here.

Anyway, thought I'd share this with you all.
Thanks to John and coffee for posting this originally, at least I now know they are ok to eat as this is affecting half my batch. I guess we'll soon know about longterm effects as we're going to be eating lots of them by the looks of things. ;-)b

I'm living in Tanzania and all the eggs here are white. I go out of my way to search for yellow yolk eggs but even the ones I buy that say on the packaging to have yellow yolks end up white as can be when cooked. I could post plenty pictures since that's all that's here unfortunately. I found this site by googling white egg yolks like everyone else. I miss yellow eggs :( Taste much better, look much better, and are likely much more healthy. These white eggs seem deficient in nutrients.
