Sunshine In North Wales

West Coast Morning

Always nice to take a trip to North Wales to visit our friends Ben and Anna. Every time we’ve gone it’s been beautifully sunny so I just assume that’s what it’s like all the time. I have no evidence to the contrary!

St Andrews, A Trip Down Memory Lane

A Scottish Fiver!

I spent a good few years of my life going to school in St Andrews so took a trip up to meet old friends and wander around. It was incredibly foggy but that just made it more atmospheric!

Scafell Pike With Friends

IMG_1749

Some colleagues of mine had the idea to hike up England’s highest mountain – Scafell Pike – and since I’ve climbed the odd mountain or two over the years I said I’d be happy to drag them up and back. It was a rather fun day out as you’ll see from the photos!

A Long Weekend In North East Fife

The Sign To Everywhere

I took a trip back home over the Royal Wedding weekend to catch up with friends and family. We were blessed with great company and great weather – both of which were most welcome!

Jamie Oliver’s 30 Minute Meals

Looking At The Good Book

I was having a look through some recent photos taken on my phone and noticed a pattern. Just recently we’ve been cooking a lot of meals from the latest Jamie Oliver book ‘Jamie’s 30-Minute Meals‘ (almost all of it delicious) and I’ve gotten into the habit of photographing our creations.

Growing Our Own Veg – Year Two

A Courgette Flower

After our successes growing our own veg last year we decided this time to take it to another level. We bought a greenhouse and created a few more raised beds so that we could grow strawberries, salad (too many types to list), cucumbers, peppers, aubergines, tomatoes, courgettes, sweetcorn, peas, mange tout, carrots, onions, beetroots, raspberries, potatoes and probably some more things I can’t remember right now. Basically, moving our growing operations up a step! And if you’ve got any veg growing tips then let me know!

The Return Of The Return To The Isle Of Arran

Leaving The Mainland

Having been to the Isle of Arran a couple of times before (here and then here) we had a couple of weeks holiday and decided to spend one of them returning to our spiritual home. We’ve always been blessed with perfect sunny weather when we’ve visited in the past and this year was no exception. Arran is an island an hour’s ferry ride from the mainland on the west coast of Scotland and is a great place to chill out on sandy beaches, hike up challenging mountains, bike around miles of forest tracks, sit in cafes and enjoy fine dining. When my lottery win comes in we’ll buy a house there in a shot! As usual I took a few photos…

Hogmanay at The Clachaig, Glencoe, Scotland

Mam na Gualainn

My good lady, a couple of friends, their dog and I spend 4 days over New Year staying at the famous Clachaig Inn up in the wilds of Scotland and were treated to great food and drink, beautiful scenery, cold but crisp weather and a good bit of walking. Anybody who’s ever been climbing or hiking in the area will know what a gem the Clachaig is and we were not disappointed!

A Weekend In Lyon And The Fete des Lumieres

Getting The Bread

My good lady and I just spent a long weekend visiting our friends in Lyon, France. It just so happened that the annual ‘Fete des Lumieres‘ was on this weekend so we went to see what all the fuss was about. It turned out to be pretty cool with light, video and all sorts projected onto the myriad historical buildings throughout the city. All in all a great weekend with great friends, wine and food!

A Week In St. Ives, Cornwall

Porthmeor Beach In Mist

My good lady and I just spent a week in the village of St Ives in Cornwall and were blessed with stunning weather, sandy beaches, great food and lots of great little shops and art galleries to explore. We came back with slight suntans, a lovely oil painting, memories of many delicious meals including one at Jamie Oliver’s 15 restaurant (which really was amazing), but above all we returned relaxed and refreshed, not wanting to leave. Which I guess is the point of a holiday! Not surprisingly I took a few photos to document the visit…
