    Hi,
For some reason I prefer current background to be saved as 'ActiveBackground.bmp' instead of '.jpg'. Is there such an option or a trick to do it?
Some info: I'm using JBS on Windows 7, single wide monitor, Aero on.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sergei

Unfortunately to use the Windows 7 transition effect the background has to be a JPG, it won't work with a BMP. I thought that you could set the compatibility mode to XP so that JBS will think it's running in XP and use a BMP background but that doesn't seem to work.

In testing I've done I've found the quality loss using the JPG instead of BMP is minimal and you shouldn't notice any difference. Are you finding you're getting a loss of quality on your background?

My reason is a bit more complicated: I work a lot with putty (ssh client) which can use active background in transparent mode but this support is rather old and allows only BMP backgrounds. May be there is another trick to force BMP background setting? Otherwise I'd like to add this feature to request list, if you have one :)
Anyway, thank you for your great and unique work on this program!

BTW, this problem appeared only when I updated JBS to version 4.1. Did you made this change in 4.x series? What is the last version which uses "old" method?

Unfortunately the check in the code to decide whether to use a BMP or JPG is checking to see if it's Vista or above so there's no way round it. I'll add it to the list to make that configurable.

It's a change I made to 4.0 so the last version that used BMP backgrounds was 3.6.

    Anyway, you're most welcome! :)

    Thanks!
One more question, do you have an idea why setting compatibility to XP doesn't work?

No. I was expecting JBS to think it's running on XP but strangely it didn't seem to work, the call to get the version of Windows still returns Windows 7. Try it on your machine if you hadn't, maybe it's just a problem with mine...

Can you also give me a link to 3.6 version? Or send it to qyron(dot)pub(@)gmail.com?
XP compatibility doesn't work on my machine too.
